How to create an event on your Facebook business page:
Create your event. Click the events button on the left hand side of your business page profile under the picture. Be sure to write exciting copy to help create a buzz. Also be sure to make it a public event so that it can be found in Facebook searches. If you’re event is to celebrate a new product from your online store just put your website address as the location. If you have a physical store you might want to think about having an actual in person social event to promote the new product.
Publish. Once you create the event it will be published on your business page. Encourage people to share it and be sure to share it on your personal profile page if it seems appropriate. This is the power of social network sites; your reach can be extensive.
Make sure everyone hears about it. From your Facebook business page go to the event you created and you will see a button in the upper right hand corner that says “Update Fans of ‘name of your page’” now click on it and send out a message to each of your fans to let them know about it and encourage them to invite their friends. If you don’t do this only those customers who happen to see the event on your wall will know about it.
Invite people. From your personal profile page go to the event and click on the “Select Guests to Invite” button which is under the picture. Here you can select people from your personal friends list who you think would like to be invited. At the bottom of this list of friends there is a place to enter the emails of those who are not on Facebook.
Send reminders. From your personal profile go to the event you created and you will see a button at the top right hand corner that says “Message Guests.” When you click on it a window will pop up and from here you have the choice to remind all that were invited, only those who are attending, just those who are not, or those who haven’t replied. Be careful about who you choose to remind. You may not want to annoy those who said they are not attending.
With the Facebook event utility you have a tool that allows you to create a buzz around your new product or sale that is easy to share.
Have you used the events utility? What have you promoted via Facebook events?
